Well, when I made my first comment I interpreted that when he said that people were being "racist and wishing death on my family" he meant that people where making death wishes (not threats), and he was claiming that was due to racism... my point was that those things were unrelated (if he really did receive death wishing comments), I wasn't judging if he was lying or not. And I wasn't treating the supposed racism and death wishes as separate issues as, like I said, I thought he was claiming that racism was implied in the death wishes.
On my second comment I do somewhat address the lying or not issue. But not really. I don't think he's lying or being honest, but it just seems like he's making accusations without proof, and I don't like that. That applies to both the death wishes and the racist accusations. I mainly addressed the racist issue because that's what the thread is centered on, with the title being "Another Premier League Racist Incident".
And my criticism wasn't just on Zaha for not providing any proof, but also on the journalists for not linking to any evidence... if they found hateful comments, then they should have cited them on the article, and if they didn't find any then they shouldn't be making a story out of this, especially not from a perspective where they take a side and assume that someone who isn't providing proof is right. Yes, I understand how journalism works, but that doesn't mean I can't criticize unprofessional or sensationalist work that doesn't follow thorough investigation procedures or the desire to deliver neutral and corroborable information.
ah i see. maybe, but this is admittedly pure speculation, they didn't want to give that scum any publicity. maybe it was already deleted by twitter or zaha himself. i just don't see what he has to gain from making this up and putting an even bigger target on himself by doing so. sure, that alone is not proof of the allegations, but in my personal opinion, considering out current (political) climate and previous racist incidents, the likelihood of a completely fabricated claim is much lower than actual racist scumbags tweeting disgusting shit.
that's why my first impulse was not to attack every outlet running with the story for not providing the racist tweets themselves, but rather the people who likely did that - but hey, to each their own.
and just for the record, if he actually just made that up it'd be extremely shitty behaviour, and also damaging the fight against racism - because there is nothing that people with such sentiments love more than a false accusation, because then they can pretend that real racism doesn't exist...
