so i just came home and switched on the tv. surprisingly we're 2:1 up against saudi-arabia (not being sarcastic here, even though they are probably the weakest possible opponent we could have chosen, our friendlies record is atrocious, we easily lose against nations like australia or usa when it doesn't matter) - anyway, gündogan gets booed and whistled every time he gets the ball. do you think he deserves it?

personally i completely understand the fans booing him, i'd probably do the same. for those who don't know what's up, this is what lead to the controversy around him and özil (who doesn't seem to play today):

just to be clear, i don't think he expected that kind of reaction, but i do think he should have been smarter than that. obviously i rate him as a player, and from what i have seen from him in interviews he seems to be a likeable and somewhat intelligent guy.
supporting, or even just accepting an invitation from a dictator like erdogan is unacceptable though in my opinion. both of them, özil and gündogan, were textbook examples of successful immigration - but the half-assed backpedals ('just being polite') after proudly posing for pictures with erdogan, just don't cut it for me. liverpool's emre can for example did not accept his invitation...

great player, but chilling with erdogan and calling him "my president" is unacceptable
dishonest apologies afterwards dont change that
identifying as a turk is fine, but please get the fuck out of our team

özil as well, at least gündogan has the balls to face the press though, gotta give him that

Well, if he's committed with the team then I really don't support booing your own players. Like with Piqué... he started getting booed by Madrid fans for his cunty attitude towards the club, but now he gets booed by all kinds of spanish fans because of his hypocrisies regarding his feelings towards the national team. However, he has always performed professionally and worked his ass off on the field, so I can't support the booing. If he's a hypocrite then that's his problem and he makes himself look bad. Booing him when he's plying properly will just hurt the team.

If Özil and Gündogan are being lazy asses or are showing lack of commitment with the national team, then sure, boo them. But their hypocrisy is their problem imo. I can't respect someone who feels turk but plays for Germany for the prestiege, but I won't criticize him either if he does show the commitment the team demands its players to show.

well, they accepted an autocrat's invitation, but that doesn't make them 'nazis' imo...

you know özil, he can be a lazy bum and we dragged him through the last world cup already
the biggest disappointment is gündogan, i like him as a player and his interviews and statements were always decent....and the poster boy out of all people is doing this shit

to make things even worse the dfb went on to stage a visit with our president (the german one lol) and tries to just stop the debate
not to mention that the agents of löw, özil and gündogan are closely connected

for the public the whole thing couldnt look much worse and i find it impossible to support these guys anymore
the last few weeks have caused a weird feeling in my gut for this tournament (this debate is only a part of it to be clear)

Deservedly booed for wilfully associating themselves with an Islamist dictator. If I was German I wouldn't support their inclusion in the squad, maybe with the exception of a sincere public apology.

this. who actually cares racism is rising again not talking about germany but in football.
if you care about fair play and political issues there should be a collective boycott since decades to tha world cup (obv talking about fifa here).
And there is no real excuse for the booing you will see more than 5/10 ppl flaming him in a racist way (gündogan) aswell inb4 ppl hate on germany they should watch italian ppl throwing bananas on balotelli etc aswell :S

There's a difference imo. Balotelli is and feels italians. Ozil and Gundogan don't, they're more Turks tha Germans. Wouldn't mind not seeing them anymore despite them being awrsome players. National teams should be for Germans, feeling German and not Turkboys who are jjst born in Germany
