I know nobody here really cares about the Brasilian football league, so if I do get any response, I know it won't be biased.

A lot of talk right now about the final between Fluminense and Flamengo in Brasil yesterday.

In the video, it appears that offensive player clearly fouls the defender (jumps over him on the initial header), but no foul is called. Was this a foul?
The play continues and Flamengo scores the first goal.

However, the ref makes some sort of gesture.
He fist pumps on the initial won header(the foul not called) and then pumps his fist twice after the goal is scored.
This is the same ref that gave a LULRED card to Fred against Flamengo last year.

Is this a random gesture at this moment of the game?
Can it really be? Brasil is super corrupt after all.

So, I have to ask you guys because I am fan of Fluminense. My view is invalid.
Am I crazy or is this shit pretty clear? Most have said it's a clear foul not called, but of course, that you can't really confirm the gesture.

Thanks all

The first jump can be called as a foul imo, but it's probably the scenario with the most inconsistant answers. One ref gives it as a foul, the other doesn't.

As for the fist bumping, I don't think it means alot. We've seen Mike Dean jumping around everytime Spurs score but that doesn't mean he's corrupt. Then again like you said its Brazil so you never know.

As far as I can tell, doesn't seem anything wrong with it, as for the foul could be called 50/50.

True about Mike Dean.
I'm not sure how the officiating went down in those games, or prior to them, but I do know the moment of the goals were not controversial like in the video I provided.
I feel as if it is a bit different, but that's just my point of view.

Agree that some refs will def see no foul.

Yeah I can understand how you feel, and perhaps there is something really wrong about this. Any idea if this case will be investigated?

i think this should have been a foul, this was too much contact and pushing in the back before he has a chance to get the ball
however in this short video i cant see the other guy complaining
this happens every week in football, i wouldnt interpret too much into the call

and the ref
granted, i do tend to see the negatives in people, but i think this guy gave himself away here

i have seen refs enjoying goals myself, but you could tell that they just love the game and someone like that wouldnt be so weird and shady
for me this little, unconscious (thats the important part here) gesture of relief does at least indicate that he does like the game going that way
he also does this little movement forward with his upper body, which does look more like it comes from excitement rather than having a better view as a neutral referee

its not enough to say there is corruption involved, but i do think that the guy was biased in some way and it should be investigated

Any fan would say, Flamengo and Corinthians should be investigated every game
Easily the 2 biggest fan bases. Brasil has problems with organized fan bases committing crimes after games etc. Even small clubs.
I feel refs and the CBF are put under a lot of pressure by this.

But in reality, nothing will come of this. Most people seem to have your same point of view. The gesture can never be affirmed of the ref celebrating.
You can only debate the call.

I am pretty mad over it though lol

He never complained about it. Henrique(CB) is the player. Remember him? He's not much of a complainer though. Just a pro.
For Brasilian level he's as good as it gets right now. Unfortunately.
No time to complain at that point, you know? We needed a goal.

I see the same gesture. The forward movement we all make that comes with the fist pump, sigh.
Thanks.

I doubt this guy will ever officiate a Fla-Flu game again in the future lol, but I agree with Mill here. The foul won't be called by every ref, and wether this ref supports one of the teams it doesn't necessarily mean he won't make objective calls. If you look at some countries, like Portugal for example, slightly over 50% of the people support Benfica... it would be statistically very hard for clubs like Porto or Sporting to get a fair ref, and yet they do get them. Although I am aware of Brazil's reputation, so who knows.

Can't say I've watched Brazilian football for ages, so no idea what is acceptable or not. But to me it looks like the defender hasn't made an attempt at the ball, just looks like he's trying to stop the attacker, fair game to put him on his arse I think.

Not sure about the ref gestures, probably in for a payday knowing Brazil.
