Since today is the local derby for my team and i will not be able to attend for first time in years i decided to introduce you my local football club, also happen to be one of the most supported football clubs in Bulgaria.Botev Plovdiv is the oldest bulgarian football club, the club was founded on 12 march 1912.The club is named Botev after our national hero, revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev. We are two-time champions of Bulgaria and have won the Bulgarian Cup two times.It's good to be mentioned that the local grands CSKA and Levski have had huge support from the communist party(cska) and the police(levski) over the years and Botev managed to finish a lot of times 2nd and 3rd simply not allowed to do better by those factors. We also have some memorable moments of european glory with probably the best being a 2:0 win against Bayern Munich and 1:0 win against Barcelona both in the old Cup Winners' Cup(sadly not enough for us to qualify in next round both times).We've got a golden boot winner in the past, his name is Georgi Slavkov, and he won the award in 1980-1981 season, sadly he recently passed away.
This is video with the win against Bayern, sadly we lose the first game 4:1 in Germany and we didn't manage to score one more goal to knock them out in the home game, but still it's amazing achievement knowing what a machine are Bayern in the 80's with Jean-Marie Pfaff, Klaus Augenthaler, the young Lothar Matthaus and more.
Our rival clubs are Lokomotiv Plovdiv as local rival and Levski Sofia as historical rival, also Beroe with whom we have the thracian derby.Beroe are famous for being champions once in 1985-1986 season when Levski Sofia given them a easy win only to screw us up, they finish 2 points ahead of us and in the same season we beat them 8-1.
Over the 90's we've had a decent team but in the late 90's very unfortunately for us a complete idiot bought the club and there was over 10 years of having serious financial problems and at the end of it they thrown us out of A group and we started again from the lowest professional level with a new owner. Then we managed to come back to A Group in just 3 seasons and even qualify for Europa League qualifying rounds. We've had a decent run there beating Astana 6:0 in two games, Zrinski Mostar 3:1 and sadly lost to Sttutgart with two draws and the away goals rule after 1:1 here and 0:0 in Germany.The team is now having some problems too as our new owner demolished the stadium and started to build a new one and it's on like 30-35% done but unfortunately the guy was also owner of one of the biggest bulgarian banks and the government decided that they're not happy with him and they screwed him over and took over the bank, he's now in Serbia suing our country in Strasbourg.That's the reason we have to play our home games in our training facilities where the stand is just for about 4000 people and that's a huge problem for us right now. I`ll also upload some videos of our recent european games and the local derbies. The thing is our club isn't having too much success over the years but have the most faithful fans over our country, being with the club and never given up even when they was the bad times for us in the past years. Lokomotiv Plovdiv are sucha low lifers that they only given us 600 tickets for the last derby and there was a lot of fights against the police and demolition in the away sector because of that, for the derby today they given even the less number of tickets 500 and i expect some troubles yet again, which is not bad at all. You`ll probably don't understand a shit from what the supporters sing in the following videos but you can still feel the atmosphere, especially if you're passionate about your local team too.
