The spanish government has finally approved the law they promised regarding La Liga's TV deals. Until now, clubs were allowed to negotiate individual deals with TV companies, creating huge imbalances between the top clubs and the smaller ones.

With the new law, it will be the LFP negotiating a unique deal for all the clubs in the 2 levels of La Liga, and not the individual clubs. It's uncertain wether the law will come into effect at the end of this season or if it will start in 2016 though.

90% of the money will go to clubs in the first level, while the remaining 10% will go to the ones in the second level. The new law provides a much more balanced share for the clubs:

50% of the money will be divided equally among the teams in Primera
25% of the money will be divided based on results achieved during a 5 year cycle
25% of the money will be divided based on the amount of viewers each team provides

In segunda it will be 70%, 15% and 15%.

Obviously the bigger clubs will still have an advantage over the rest, but it's definetely a much smaller one.

They should have done something like this years ago, ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!

really good system

very similar to our german system, where the money is shared as well
and it produced a league of healthy and decent clubs

but certainly real and barca will get quite a bit less money now, wont they?

Not really, their current deals were getting outdated, so they were getting less than what they could potentially get while negotiating on their own... not to mention that it wil be more attractive now to negotiate with them if they'll be playing against richer clubs.

It's expected that they'll make slightly more money with the new deal, while the rest will make A LOT more. It depends on the deal La Liga signs, but they won't be making less in any case.

10% of that money will go to clubs in Segunda. If the new law is applied starting the 2016/17 season instead of next season, then I hope Mallorca will be in Primera and they'll be getting their share out of the 90% of the money that will go to clubs in Primera.

If Mallorca is in Segunda when the new law starts rolling, then it will be good and bad for the club at the same time.

They'll make more money than what they are currently making, which is good. They are one of the most prestigious clubs in the second level, and with more money they will be able to make better signings.

However, the gap between the money Mallorca would make and the money the other clubs in Segunda would make, would be much smaller. Even though Mallorca would be getting more money than other clubs from the parts that are divided depending on viewers, the way money is divided in Segunda (70-15-15 instead of 50-25-25) will make this difference very small.

Overall, it will be bad for Mallorca if the club stays in Segunda for a long time. We need to promote asap. First of all because we'd be missing on a lot of the money the clubs in Primera would start getting, and secondly because 25% of the money in Primera is based on results achieved over a 5 year span in top flight... if we're not there then we won't be getting anything out of that amount.
