Question for our most seasoned (by which I mean old) posters to clarify

If I am an attacker stood in an offside position, but not involved in play a team mate can get the ball, score a goal, Andy Andy king etc

In reverse though, if I defender is down injured and thus not involved in play playing an attacker onside, why does the 'involved in phase of play' rule not reciprocate?

defender could fake injury to prevent goals.

Well i guess the rule could be defined as 'interfering with play' in the same way as attackers

Seems somewhat onesided if the defending team had a player down near the corner flag, the striker in theory could just stand in the 6 yard box

Because you're not considered to be injured unless/until the ref stops the game.

If anything, ignoring defenders who are injured not interfering with play would discourage this, because it continues the idea of play continues until the ball goes out of play before a player can receive treatment.
