"So far we can trust each other and this will not change. As long as we have enough shirts and a bus to drive to the games we will be there and will compete hard." Tuchel

while transfer fees are obviously not irrelevant, and always a hot topic amongst fans, as they are mostly publicly known, there's much more to the budget of a club. in particular player wages, which account for a major part of a club's budget. they are the main factor in a club's attractiveness for talent that isn't home-grown, ultimately determining its competitiveness in the long term.

my point stands, without massive external money injections, none of the big clubs would remain competitive. chelski might have been on the forefront of that development, and obviously i'm not suggesting that every club is exactly equally dependent on (foreign) sugar daddies, but it'd be somewhat dishonest to act like they still had that financial edge over the rest of the league and the sanctions merely leveled the playing field...

Ty Patrick. :D

And yeah. What a mess. Hopefully the government let him sell up but freeze the cash after the fact. No chance they could carry on under the current conditions.

these days? about as competitive as liverpool, arsenal, and united would be without american business and stock money, city without uae oil money, or leicester without thai business money...
any team without massive (mostly foreign) investment won't stand a chance to even challenge for the pl title...

American owners don't invest, they do leveraged buyouts and then service the debt from club profits

In Liverpool's case in particular they don't invest and all the money spent by the club is generated by the club
