Afaik, there was a chance that could happen back in the summer, but it didn't come through because Mourinho wanted him to stay, the player still felt like he could fight for a spot in the starting XI, and Atlético wasn't willing to pay even half of Mata's wage.

The first two might have changed, but the last one definetely hasn't... especially now that the player can't play the CL. I could only see it happening if Chelsea was stupid enough to pay Mata's full salary while he's on loan (which I can't say is impossible at all).

I still don't get why Mourinho hardly played him, then again that's typical Mourinho.

Mata does very little defensive work and Mourinho requires his attacking midfielders to track back a lot.

Stop wasting ur time discussing meaningless stuff. Mata isn't going anywhere, not now, may be at the end of the season, but not now. And even if we decide to sell him why would we strengthen a english team even if its not title contender but potential Liga Europa participant. Also i doubt that he will be attracted to either play in Liga Europa or non european football for atleast a year or even more... The mancs can't satisfy his ambit

Mata's best position is no 10, which doesn't really need strengthening, but not every day you have an opportunity to sign world class players like Mata.
Personally I'd love Cabaye, he'd be cheaper than Fellaini and he actually can play football.

Mata would be a good signing - not exactly what is needed but good luck finding a world class player right now.

Gundogan is still my ideal target but I take Mata any day to improve that shit midfield going on now.
