Good article on Wilshere - I'd still have him at United.

Also, Chicharito coming back to the Prem :hail:

Constant sick note and even when "fully fit" didn't stand out at all among the Bournemouth plodders. An unsuccessful loan spell ending in yet another injury is unlikely to make people want to pay for you.

Could do with a year of getting slapped about in the championship.

It is not up to Barcelona. Every player in the spanish league has a buy out clause, and if that one is met, offer is auto accepted and it's up to the player to discuss with the other team.
Neymar, Messi, Suarez all have like 2.3 bil euro clauses, and if PSG offers that (which is fuckign INSANE IF TRUE), nothing we can do. Hopefully Neymar rejects them.

I think release clauses are a good thing tbh. Here in Spain it's mandatory for everyone to have one, and I wish it was like that everywhere else... players shouldn't be the property of the clubs they play for. If someone wants to leave, he should be able to if a previously agreed compensation is paid.

About the Neymar case, I'm pretty sure he won't leave. PSG is obviously a rich club, but I doubt it's possible for them to pay the 222M€+taxes of the release clause, plus the 30M€ per season of the contract media says are offering Neymar, without breaching FFP. Neymar just wants a raise imo.

i think the clubs should have more power and contracts should be worth more than the paper they are printed on
players nowadays sign 5 year contracts right and left to say "ok thanks bye bye" a few months later
i remember when ribery wanted to force his move to real not too long after signing a new deal, thankfully hoeneß kicked his butt B)

the amounts for players like neymar are ridiculous already and as you said nobody can pay that much
so there is no way for him leave in any case, he might as well have no buy out at all

The thing is, if the player signs a contract with a release clause, the club can always say "you agreed to this release clause, so pay it or stfu". Without it the player can always say the club is betraying him, treating him like property, etc. Release clauses make the contracts more solid imo, because it's basically having the player say "I'm ok with my club not selling me if there isn't an offer of at least xxxx€", which gives the club leverage in potential negotiations. It ensures that if a player decides to leave against the club's will, the club willl at least get a compensation they considered fair when they made the contract. I do agree though that players should over all honor their contracts more often in today's football, but in any case I think that we shouldn't let corporations (in this case football clubs) be the ones that set the limit to the the freedom of worker movement.

I mean in theory the release clause is good but with the TOP players, all the clauses are set at 200m+ euro rofl. It's just there technically, but nobody pays it.
I think there should be a cap on the amount, and I think it's GREAT for mid tier players. Say you play for Sunderland, you have a 4 year contract that's pretty bad. You have a break through in year two, you score 30 goals, everyone wants you, but your team wants an outrageous offer like 80m euro (obv you're native english).
It's clear you're too good for Sunderland and wants to move on. In other jobs, you usually have like 3-6 months if you quit your job. In football, it could be like 3 years. This is similiar to the Bosman rule. It'd be great if more agents started demanding REALISTIC release clauses for their upcoming talents.

For example, Payet in West Ham? In his heart maybe he knew he was going to be too good for West Ham one day. Why sign a long contract, play a year, do great at EC, demand to get sold to bigger club? Just have your fucking agent get the club to agree on a release clause.
Almost all players not on Barca, Atleti or Real have these ranging from like 15-50m euro. Simply because it's the right thing to do.
