Honesty in my eyes it's not fair or realistic to say someone is the best in history.

The best during his time would be more appropriate. Of a generation even... But since the sport evolves and the quality of players / technology evolves, what was once the best is now not anymore. And same can be said for the future where the next messi could come to life and same discussion will happen.

What defines the best in history? Most relevant titles? Moat goals scored? Most titles of best CL player? There is too much involved to accurately say that player A would have been just as successful decades ago. Less technology, lower levels of quality treatment for serious injuries that could possibly have ended the career and so on.

I do personally believe Messi is the current best of our generation tho.
