Robin van Persie needs rest not painkillers, says outspoken Dutch fitness coach

Raymond Verheijen believes the Manchester United striker is still paying for a poor pre-season under David Moyes

Raymond Verheijen is likely to give Manchester United boss David Moyes a headache by saying Robin van Persie's time with the Dutch camp will keep him off painkillers.

The colourful fitness coach, who was assistant to the late Gary Speed in Wales, recently labelled the new United boss a dinosaur and suggested a thigh injury to the Dutch striker was caused by the Scot's training techniques.

At the time he wrote on his Twitter page that: "The only way to solve this problem in Jurassic Park is to improve education of these dinosaur coaches, fitness clowns & scientific cowboys."

And the straight-talking Dutchman is at it again by suggesting that the current niggling injury worries that have hampered the Holland international this season are down to him not having recovered properly from a punishing season's warm-up under Moyes in his latest rant.

He wrote: "Hopefully next season RVP will have a balanced pre-season so he does not have to use pain killers at all. But maybe this is a bit ambitious?

"RVP missed 1st week pre-season, had to travel 30 hrs & 10 hrs time difference. Still the Man U 'experts' decided to purposely overtrain him?"

Verheijen has also suggested that the time Van Persie spends will allow him time away from guzzling painkillers in a bid to play while not being fully fit.

He added: "Thankfully, Dutch NT coach Louis van Gaal understands bigger picture. Total rest now will have positive effect on RVP's WC2014 next summer."

The former Wales coach has a history of taking to social media for his outspoken views on fitness in football and enraged some within the England camp ahead of Euro 2012 by calling their approach as amateurish and prehistoric as he likened the training camp to 'Jurassic Park'.

He resigned from the Welsh set-up after Chris Coleman was given the job ahead of him and has been a constant critic of the former Fulham boss accusing him of failing to turn Wales' 'very talented generation' into a great team.

Looks like this guy was right, cheers Davie.

CRUZEIRO’S EVERTON RIBEIRO: I WOULD FIT IN WELL AT MAN UTD!

Cruzeiro star Everton Ribeiro believes he would be a great fit for Manchester United’s midfield.

The 24-year old Brazilian is continually being linked with a January move to Old Trafford and told ESPN Brasil that he feels he would do well in David Moyes’ setup amongst some players he knows well from playing video games.

"I already watch the Premier League games," Ribeiro said. "They are great teams that play in Europe. They are the dream of any player.

"I feel I am ready to play in any part of the world. If you play for Cruzeiro, you can play in any place.

"United have (Shinji) Kagawa, (Wayne) Rooney, (David) De Gea is the goalkeeper. I know them very well because I play with them a lot in video games as they are a great team. You play it one day after the other and know the players even better.

"I would fit in any part of the midfield. I would do well as a playmaker to support the attack."
