you are forgetting an important distinction though: the significant spike in hate crime seems to be directly related to the leaver campaign's fear-mongering rhetoric concerning immigrants and refugees while general crime committed by people (immigrants and brits alike) is always an issue. you said it yourself: shit is happening everywhere. however, phrases like dro's "british jobs for british workers", his insisting on being "white british" and not polish... do you think you would have heard that kind of stuff before the referendum? be honest please...

also, let's talk about some facts here. just look at the numbers of refugees the uk accepted. it's laughably low considering they are the 2nd strongest EU economy. they even opted out of the relocation plan completely: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34131911

obviously, taking in as many refugees (and thousands that pretend to be) as germany or sweden did for example, can bring a lot of problems. and unlike poo suggested, i do NOT write those off as "cultural misunderstandings" that have to be tolerated but i'm furious with those who committed these crimes and i think we should punish them much harsher or send them back right away. i also don't agree with how our press and officials initially tiptoed around these issues in order to be "politically correct" and not "fuel the right wing bigots" - but that's a whole different issue and really not what we're talking about when it comes to the UK...

i tell you where you tried to downplay hate crimes: when you pointed out an alleged rise in "child molesting, gang on gang violence etc", claiming it was "directly related to immigration" (without providing any facts to support these claims) and directly juxtaposing it in opposition to the proven and significant rise in hate crime. to me, this very much looks like an attempt to justify those hate crimes.

No idea how reliable this story is, but more and more of these types of stories keep popping up, because (as far as I understand) they can get around some of the additional costs on their end, even though they pay the workers the same rate and give the same benefits. If British people are getting turned down for jobs in Britain because they are British then how are people supposed to react?

I'm personally seeing more and more stories in the media about these crimes, alas, they don't release "racist" figures to back this up. But seeing a fairly rapid rise in child abuse, rapes, violent crimes etc etc, it isn't massively far-fetched or bigoted to attribute (at least some of) this to a rise in immigration.

And it wasn't "in opposition", it was in tandem.
