like i said earlier, it's a crime and should be punished but obviously he can drive. there are formula 1 drivers who don't even have a license and i'd rather have the streets full of drivers without license who can drive than 1/10 who's driving drunk. not that any of that was a good option...

he's done discussing it and will never admit he was wrong, hehe...

That's precisely the point : driver license gives you a sheer estimate of the driver's ability to handle the car (plus knowing the rules regarding driving - rules through which you anticipate most of the times what the other driver around you will do). Most accidents happen not with unlicensed f1 drivers, but with random dudes that think they are f1 drivers. And "knowing to drive a car" is never enough, you should know the signs, the rules about other type of cars, trams and shit. Is it not fair to assume Reus knew none of those ?

you're making a very good point there... for my first sentence in the post: "it's a crime and should be punished". for all of the reasons you mentioned above...

i'd still rather have 10 drivers who drive their car accident free for years without a license than one with .12 % blood alcohol. but like in the post you were quoting there i'll say that both are still bad options...

Trial and sentencing are actually pretty quick when evidence is overwhelming and beyond reasonable doubt. You usually see prosecutors and detectives take longer often is because they are simply building the best case possible and trying to put together more evidence before taking a shot at convicting someone.

But in Vidals case there isn't much to investigate and all. Hospital has clear evidence of his blood alchohol level. He was arrested on the scene etc.

So it's not about being fair and giving him extra time. It's just that the justice system often needs more time to put a presentable case together in front of a court of law.

yep, exactly
caught red handed like this makes for a turbo trial

me too and that can be said without trivializing it
i have no license, but could handle a car without anyone noticing

The Copa America is important for Chile and in my opinion (again opinion) it would be fair to let him play in it and judge the situation AFTER the tournament)

If they win forget about the Situation, if they don't- send him to jail, right?
So basically you're saying that football is above the law?
You have a weird Sense of judgement
He was drinking and driving during a major tournament.
If only this (let's forget about that crash and officer stuff for a Moment) happened to ANY German player during the world cup, he'd be sent home instantly
If the coach refrained from doing so the public outrage would be so big that the coach would go home along with the player

Perhaps, very good point.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, is that this situation is blown out of porportion, simply for the fact he crashed, if he didn't their wouldn't be this much drama

all of a sudden it's a fair point, huh? when i basically said the exact same thing and even provided an example it wasn't...
at least you're being reasonable now, that's all that matters...
