1-2 good years don't make you world class, it could just be superb form... look at Torres, he played on world class level for 2 years, but was a mediocre player throughout the rest of his carreer

Diego Costa is a good striker, but I don't consider him world class, at least for now

So world class is defined as a consistency and not pure performance then?

say striker A consistently scores 20 goals every season, while striker B scores an average of 12-13/season but then steps up his game at age ~ 25 and then proceeds to score around 40 goals a season, isn't that world class performance?

And are you really claiming that Torres should NOT be called world class?

But looking at Torres' stats from goals alone he seems way overrated...

Apart from his first season for Liverpool, he only scored 48 goals in 3 seasons... Less than Ronaldo or Messi in a single season. (almost every year for the last 5 years)

How mature.. Wake me up when Aguero wins a gold boot, or is 3 goals short of one.

Well, you know the old saying "form is temporary, class is permanent"... don't take it completely literally, but you know what I mean.

In your example, striker B could be considered world class imo if he managed to keep his new level of play consistently once he stepped up. So if he stepped up at age 25, I guess he could be rated world class at say 27-28 if he kept that form.

And no, I'd never consider Torres world class. For me, world class can only be used for the very best players. I probably wouldn't rate as world class more than 30-40 players in the world.

Well none of them will come close to the European golden boot this year (Costa was last year, 28 vs 31 & 31) that's for sure.

as for EPL top scorer, we'll see.
