He's a little above average at best.
He's like an alternative version of Podolski, a little speedier and better at cutting inside, yet weaker in shot power and finishing in general.

Last time he was good was porobably in Mainz.

He was good at the world cup, the winning goal was all him not gotze...

I'd rather rate them both as shit players, with the sole exception that podolski seems a cool person.

World Cup was very different from any other major tournament and from League competition as well though, as it was very obvious that almost all of the teams completely separated their offense from defense due to high temperatures/humidity.
Formations may have varied, but it was basically mostly looking like this:

CDM - (3rd CDM) - CDM

That's why Löw/Germany could succeed even though they basically fielded 4 central backs all the time with no real wing back on the field. Offensive lines had no defensive duties and vice versa.
Throw Schürrle in a formation/tactical system which needs their offensive line to support defense/pressure higher on the pitch and he's utter crap.



Still above average. Not even close to world class or worthy of any of the top 10 clubs in the world though.
