when you look at it tho back then in 08 and 2012 we were much more solid at the back, and were doing much better in the league when we are this year.
We didn't lose to psg because of the style we played, but because our defense isn't as solid as it should be.
I'm not too mad, because this season has been in shambles from the start. rebuild next year with hopefully the right manager and then in 2017 we are back in it.
Let's take the UCL final vs. Bayern, because you like to bring it up a lot^^
Your defense was everything BUT solid... unless ofc you have an entirely different understanding of that word.
"Solid" would have meant they wouldn't have allowed more than 2-3 scoring opportunities for Bayern by either keeping them out of their box or at least forcing them to rely on an unfamiliar style (like many crosses with Chelsea's players being better in the air or long shots with their players blocking them).
What "solid" definitely doesn't mean is allowing the opponents to create 7-8 great chances to score from inside the box and only HOPING for Cech to save them or that there will be some defender far back enough to block the shots on their own goal line if possible.
This is not - and has never been - a concept that relies on solid defending... it instead relies on luck and the opponent's inability to score from even their best opportunities to a much greater extent.
I hate Bayern and probably no German could have been happier than me the night your team won UCL in their stadium. BUT to say this had anything to do with the quality of your/their squad or with your solid defense (which in fact didn't exist) is ignorant at best.
