i agree that i might be a bit harsh on plattenhardt, and it's true that the team did not really include him much into the build up play - but if you can't even begin to rise to the occasion, you should not have been picked in the first place (which honestly he shouldn't have, i said before the tournament started that augsburg's max deserved it much more). also, i somewhat understand that the other players didn't have much confidence in him, he looked more nervous than a 15 year old before his first sex, and he could not outplay an opponent to save his life (which probably explains his pass accuracy because all he did was short back passes to midfielders helping out)...
also, that tackling statistic might just be accurate - but that's not because he did such an outstanding defensive job, but rather because he was constantly out of position. i remember one situation in particular, i think it was towards the end of the first half where he just refused to cover the run of mexico's offensive player who started like 3m behind him and ended up a easily in front of him in the center of the box creating a golden opportunity - and it's not like plattenhardt was confused about which player to cover because they switched or something, it was clearly his man to mark.
