He doesn't work well with Griezmann. It's not that they bother each other while on the pitch, but the system that helps Mandzukic shine kills Griezmann and vice versa.
When Atleti played for Mandzukic and Griezmann was benched (during the start of the season), the croatian would score goaals regularly and perform well. However, Cholo realized that the team benefited most from having Griemann play at his full potential, rather than Mandzukic (especially after Torres came, who works well along the frenchie).
If you compare the performances Atlético has had over the last few months with the one they had with the previous system, it's obvious that they are miles better with Griezmann comfortable on the pitch. He has been on a crazy scoring spree, and even though he's not a real striker he has become the highest scoring frechman in one season in La Liga, outscoring the likes of Benzema who is a the number 9 in a team that has much less trouble scoring (and held the previous record).
