Never good. Just goes to show how terrible la liga is domestically.

I remember when he was supposed to be the next big thing from the Balkans. Completely tore up the Dutch league for the PSV.

Speaking of the dutch, this guy used to b one of my favorite strikers:

Could do it all. left foot, right foot, headers, free kicks, outside the box shots, dribbling past players - complete package.

Well whenever he was subbed in where he played, you could see he was class. But it didnt happen too often. Should not have gone to Chelsea at the time, they even hardly ever started Robben with whom he was a machine.

Pedrag Djordjevic.

A classic of the CL group stages and a legend for Olympiakos. He was one of many balkan players that decided to try and build a football carreer anywhere but in their war-ridden home. He went from Crvena Zvezda to a third level greek team, which he carried to the top division in two years. Soon after that he signed for an Olympiakos that hadn't won a trophy in 8 years... they then went on to win 12 leagues and 5 cups in his 13 year spell at the club.

Antonios Nikopolidis. Another classic of the CL group stages and greek football legend. Will always remember his performances with Panathinaikos and Olympiacos in the CL groups and with the national team, especially in 2004.

It's hard to find good keeper compliations btw...

Juan Román Riquelme announced yesterday that he was retiring from football, so I figured this was a good excuse to resurrect the thread.

It's a shame he never seemed to fulfill his potential, even during his prime at Villarreal he just didn't seem to care much and he didn't have that spark of ambition required to step up the highest level. He was always a joy to watch though.
