missing Jozy is a pretty big blow, and that's what i meant when i said that our mids need to step up and keep the ball longer and create going forward. it needs to be said that perhaps Beasley's inclusion in the squad itself was a mistake, he just isn't the player for this type of competition, no offense to him. it also needs to be said that Jones was critical/amazing in our win vs Ghana :)

yeah Jones is a gamer. bradley has to step his shit up now big time too.

He was by far the worst on the field, Bradley better step it the fuck up or we better be smart enough to bench him. He seriously didn't do a damn thing all game.

you thought bradley was the worst? I'd have to disagree, but for what he CAN give and what he DID give, there was a huge discrepancy. And while bradley definitely needs to sstep it up, him at his C game is better than most we'd replace him with

I don't think I ever saw him beat a defender or even pass forward for that matter, he lost us 3 solid looks on goal and he almost gave up a goal. It really doesn't get much worse than that, he was a handicap all game. I know he's more than capable of playing well, I just want to see it, his performance was atrocious. I don't know how you didn't see it, I think every other US fan I talked to saw the same thing.

argue it all you want man, 3 pts against a team we could never beat in the past is just fine by me

I know you're more intelligent than that. Results are not everything.

My thoughts for a lineup against Portugal:

Wondo-Aaron
----Demps
Jones-Bradley
-Beckermann
etc.

Take advantage of a struggling midfield, have Jones or Beckermann man mark Cristiano, counter with the front three against a Pepe-less backline. We know that Coentrao and Perriera like to get forward, so have Aaron jump into those corners and play him the ball, let him hold up there and allow Wondo/Dempsey and even Bradley to get into the box, or play back to Bradley and let him control the tempo.

I don't appreciate your sarcastic comment. Apologies for giving my input.

coenrtrao is out for the rest of the WC. I think it will be hard to just go 2 forwards all of a sudden with dempsey at CAM when we never really played that. - and i HATE wondolowski. I don't think he offers much at all. also if we do that who plays the outside mids? beckerman, bradley and jones are all central players that can move to the wing for tiny spells if need be but we cant force them to stay out there. Aron is also not big or strong on the ball, i dont see him being able to hold the ball while we get forward. without jozy i think we can pull off a tie, but our forwards are pretty bad without him. im honestly embarassed to have wondolowski on our WC squad.

Yea coentrao being out helps a lot. We played that against Mexico and that tactic showed signs of promise in the first half of that game. My only reason to put Wondo in there is that he is a classic poacher. He offers nothing but offensive tactical awareness.

I think that outside mids won't really be needed as we'll have to cope with their three midfielders, plus support for CR and Nani on the wings. going forward, we have to allow Aron to hit the outsides as a psuedo-winger and let him hold up in space there (space created by Portugal's attacking fullbacks). He can't hold up against Bruno Alves, but he can hold up in space I think.

Pardon me but how do results not matter?!
