only when he starts scoring again, thats when u know his confidence is back.

A player like Vermaelen doesn't really lose confidence, he has always been a fighter (at Beerschot, ajax or at Arsenal)

Yesterday's game just proved the obvious again. Arsenal are desperate for a top tier striker. Everything's ok when playing smaller teams, the midfield just steamrolls over them creating chance after chance. Problems arise when they face a top team, especially at home where they're expected to get the result. Possession alone won't get u anywhere against a strong defensive minded opponent. When there isn't a guy upfront who can constantly worry the opposition even without the ball it's gonna be very hard to get positive results when it really matters. I really expect Wenger to act when transfer window opens. I'm not saying it should necessarily be signing of Ozil's caliber (tho a guy like Suarez would be just perfect for them), but it still has to be a proven goalscorer.
Also wtf is wrong with Ozil in big games? They guy just seems unable to impose himself out there. And it's not the first time as well. Wonder if it's just a matter of transition for Spanish to English football or does he have some confidence issues?

Ozil didn't really play that bad imo. Chelsea was also defending like they were about to win the champions league final

Well, he didn't fuck up but he didn't do anything worthwile either. In other words he was pretty much one out of many. And imo it shouldn't be like that if u have a 40+ mil pricetag and expected to be the difference maker.
Also i don't see a problem with Chelsea defending like that. They came out with certain goals for this game and chose the appropriate tactics. I don't see why would Arsenal moan about it when their main problem was inability not only to score but also create anything decent.

definitely not a good game from özil. he has to be judged by his standard, his pricetag and his reputation and certainly failed to create a clear chance so yes - a bad game from him. still he was arsenal's best offensive player.
but let's face it, the point is that mou did an excellent job achieving his primary goal which was obviously not to lose the game and even more than that, chelsea looked very dangerous with their (counter-) attacks...

but where that happened, and what wenger failed to recognize - the crucial position yesterday - was theo walcott imo. sure, he's a quality player and his insane pace always poses a threat to any defense in the world but mou knew that and you could clearly see that azpilicueta's only job (and he did it very well) was to take walcott out of the game. and walcott just isn't the kind of player who changes positions with his fellow offensive players which makes the job for the defenders so much harder. and also not the player to put in much defensive work which clearly holds sagna back. imo arsenal are much more unpredictable and harder to defend with cazorla constantly playing one-twos and changing positions with özil and rosicky or wilshere. walcott just hugging the line and relying on his pace was a little too one-dimensional yesterday and i'm really surprised wenger didn't see this and make the sub...

I agree with what you said, but Walcott just had a bad game. He learned to come in trough the center more instead of hugging the line and running, we saw that last year where he scored more.
We also saw this when he came in vs City, but he is learning how to field more positions in one match, this is a big reason why he wants to play in the centre.

As for Özil, it was just great defending from Chelsea, they held him back alot and Özil even got mad during the game vs Ivanovic, something I have never seen him do.
