is there any significant incentive (financial for example) to win the 'final' if you already qualified by winning the 1st leg? i mean sure, calling yourself 'champion' is nice and all, but it's not like anyone will know (or even care) in 2 years, so i would just send my bench players, their motivation might be even higher than the regular squad's - especially if the 'title' isn't prestigious enough to prevent well-deserved celebrations the moment you secured promotion... anyway, gl to your boys.

Meh, a money incentive, but it's not a big deal tbh. Many teams do indeed play their bench players in those games. Promotion is all that really matters tbh.

god, that promotion system you got is so complicated :D

Yep. But tbh I've grown to like it. It gives the group champions a very strong advantage as a reward for their first place finish. Of course an even bigger reward would be to just give the champions direct promotion and scrap away the playoffs, but then the league would be very boring, with many meaningless matches towards the end of the season, which could affect the way teams perform... so by making a playoff for the top 4 teams, there are more spots to fight for, and so the league stays competitive until the end. I feel like this system, while definitely complicated and weird, gives a good balance between giving the champions a reward/advantage and allowing more teams to fight for a goal.

yeah, sounds reasonable as long as the champions have a significant advantage
i hate the idea of a weaker team making up for a much worse league season in a handful of games

since irvine posted it, i looked it up and fulham finished 13 points and 11 goals on goal difference above derby
i am happy fulham made it, because they have been the better team, deciding the outcome of a 46 game campaign in 2 games is just unfair imo

I think I prefer the top 2 going up automatically and a playoff for the third. It's entertaining. Just wish the prem did a playoff for one of the relegation spots. Far too many teams doing just enough to stay up, better to give them something worth fighting for.

do you mean premier league teams relegation playoff or prem vs championship for one spot?
the latter is what we have in germany and its absolutely terrible

last time derby were in the Premier League they got the lowest # of points ever lol 1 win and 8 draws for 11 points.

im sure irvine is happy Derby wont get promoted so they cant nick Leicester for 6 points next season

rather have a chance to see what Sessegnon is capable of in the Prem before Man United get him B)

Lul. That Derby team is genuinely one of the worst they've had for some years.

The Fulham team is decent, and deserve to go up imo. Sessegnon has the potential to be world class, but he shouldn't move for a few years. No point pulling a Shaw and having your career set back.
