Mallorca will be playing home against 2nd placed Elche tomorrow morning.
Elche is historically a Segunda club, that occasionally plays in Primera (in fact, they were up there just 3 years ago, until they were relegated for violating La Liga's financial fair play rules), but can also drop to the third level when things every now and then. So, like Mallorca, they are upset to be down here.
Their team is pretty strong on paper, and they were supposed to fight for the title with us... but so far, they've been a bit underwhelming, and are 11 points behind us... which has led to the sacking of their manager last weekend. It's not that they are doing terribly, I mean they are 2nd after all... it's just that Mallorca has been amazing, and so far dropped only 4 points.
So this should be a big game. Elche is theoretically the best team we will face this season. I don't know how the change in manager will affect the players... let's hope it doesn't fire them up too much. A victory would be amazing as it would give us a 14 point lead over our strongest opponent.
RCD Mallorca 2 - 0 Elche
Another easy win

First half was more or less balanced (although we were still the better team over all), but as soon as we pushed a bit harder in the second half, the game was all ours.
We're 14 points ahead of the 2nd placed with 4 games of the first half of the season to go, giving us the honorary (yet meaningless) title of "winter champions". It's obvious that we are miles better than the rest of the teams, and only a crazy turn of events would stop us from finishing the group as 1st placed. The only thing that worries me is the potential relaxation this might bring, making us lose part of our competitive edge by the time the promotion playoffs start. We need to stay focused.
