WAYNE ROONEY has been told by Paris Saint-Germain that he can name his terms for a £30million move to France this summer – with the club ready to pay him £300,000 a week after tax.
The Ligue 1 champions are planning to make a huge bid for Rooney, 27, who is currently in Rio de Janeiro preparing for tomorrow’s England friendly against Brazil. PSG have made their approach through England intermediaries and have offered him a four-year deal.
PSG, backed by wealthy Qatari owners, have made the unsettled Manchester United star their No1 transfer target and, despite denials by United that Rooney is for sale, they are determined to get their man.
The French champions are so keen to get him they have made it clear that if that is not enough, he can name his price on the terms of a contract.
All of which will throw new United manager David Moyes’ plans for the season into total disarray, just when it looked like he had fended off interest.
Rooney was unhappy about being played out of position by Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season and left out of some key matches altogether.
He was reported to have asked for a transfer, but his representatives denied that at the time.
Rooney, who has two seasons remaining on a £250,000-a-week deal, was due to meet with Moyes to thrash out his future last week.
But such a meeting has not yet taken place, with the birth of the striker’s second son, Klay, and then Rooney’s England duties.Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are all monitoring Rooney’s situation carefully and are ready to move in should his situation not be resolved.
PSG look set to lose their manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is in talks to take the place of Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, but that has not called a halt to their transfer plans.
Intent on making a real impression on next season’s Champions League, they aim to pair Rooney with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in an attacking line-up aimed at striking fear into the opposition.
Moyes, however, is believed to want to keep a player he brought through as a teenager at Everton.
Rooney’s camp denied last night that they had taken part in any sort of contact with the French club.
