Mallorca will be playing home against Atlético Saguntino tomorrow.

They're a very small club that has spent most of it's history in regional tiers; however they did play some seasons in the third level during the 60s, and they're now back after all these years. Their goal is obviosuly to avoid relegation, but they've been doing ok so far.

I expect them to park the bus, so I hope we can break their defensive line quickly and have an easy game.

Mallorca 3 - 2 Atlético Saguntino

We deserved much more, but a win is a win regardless of the goal difference. We dominated, hit the woodwork 3 times and forced their keeper to have a really good performance. Our keeper, which has been really solid so far this season made a silly mistake that costed us a goal, and during injury time we were toying so much with our opponent and searching for the 4-1 that the team relaxed in defense and conceded another goal in a counterattack. Those were the only chances Atlético Saguntino had.

10/12 points and things are looking good so far (although one really can't expect any less in Segunda B). Atlético Baleares aside though, we've only played against teams that are expected to finish in the bottom half of the table... so it's not the time to get too excited just yet.

Mallorca will be playing away against Ontinyent tomorrow.

Ontinyent has spent the vast majority of its history shifting between the 3rd and 4th levels of spanish football, aside from their short lived golden age in the 60s (where they spent a few seasons in Segunda). There's a bit of a dark history between Mallorca and Ontinyent, because the last time we met (almost 40 years ago, during the club's darkest ages) Mallorca was having serious financial troubles and the players weren't getting paid on time... the crowd of Ontinyent "welcomed" our players by throwing 1 cent coins and calling them hobos and the like. It's one of the most disgusting moments Mallorca has witnessed throughout its history, and even Ontinyent seems to still be deeply embarrassed by it as they've spent all week using social media to say they wish us a warm welcome and that they are honored to be facing a club like Mallorca and that they wish us to be back in Primera "where we belong" soon.

It's probably going to be a tough game. Ontinyent aren't expected to fight for promotion, but they've had a good start so far, and apparently they're really good at locking themselves in their small field while waiting for a chance to counterattack. Hope we break through and score soon.

Yeah, they were really some classless bastards. Football players didn't earn that much at the time, let alone 3rd level players. The situation was really tight for most players, so that humiliation was very tasteless to say the least.

That week, Mallorca had become the first club in the world that had its players lock themselves up in the locker room as a form of strike. They spent several days there until a club official finally knocked on the door to tell them they were ready to pay up. They players received the money, and immediately took a flight to Ontinyent to play that game with that infamous "welcome". Barely made it on time and of course lost after a week without any exercise and just jumping off a plane.
