Mallorca will be playing away against Atlético Baleares tomorrow. Derby day!

So, 37 years later, the city of Palma will see their traditional derby between RCD Mallorca and Atlético Baleares. A once strong rivalry that began in the 40s, when both teams would often meet in the second and third levels of the spanish football pyramid, but began dying in the 80s when Mallorca finally took off from being a "typical Segunda club" that would play in top flight in their best years and in the third level in their worst, to a club that consistently played in Primera (while Baleares was left in the third, and even declining to the 4th and 5th tiers). So the rivalry isn't really as heated anymore... right now, Baleares really hates Mallorca while we kind of just ignore them and don't really care.

But now that we're meeting again (unfortunately in Segunda B), things are spicing up again. It will be an intense and complicated game. Both clubs have built really good looking squads that should fight for promotion (although Mallorca obviously has a better one on paper as we have a much bigger budget). It will be complicated because Atlético Baleares is really hyped about this game and excited to finally be in the same division as us, while we're depressed to be playing down here... and their stadium will be completely full and hostile towards us. But still, I believe we have everything required to bring back the 3 points to the other side of Palma. Whatever happens, I'm really looking forward to this, as it will be my first ever Palma derby. Hope one day I can see one in a higher division.

Hope not

It's actually a concern... nobody really knows how the fans on both sides will react to this situation. It's completely new for the fans that are under 45 or so. Both clubs have asked for civilized behaviour, and the media as well... but they keep talking, and talking about this... and that usually just fuel things up.

Personally, I doubt there will be too many problems. Like I said, the rivalry has kind of died over this years (from Mallorca's perspective at least, since Baleares does still hate us), and while still a special game, it would probably need some time to grow back. Maybe the ultras on both sides might do something silly if the game heats up... I hope not.

Atlético Baleares 0 -0 RCD Mallorca

Pretty boring game tbh. Balanced (one half for each team), with very few chances (most of them in Mallorca's favour). At least the Palma derby was an interesting experience for me. Lots of tension, with the game getting really heated towards the end, with Baleares receiving a red card and then wasting a lot of time and trying to start a fight which would either make the clock tick or get one of our players sent off. Fortunately the fans on both sides behaved, settling the fear that this renewed local rivalry would be a violent one.

Mallorca will be playing home against Atlético Saguntino tomorrow.

They're a very small club that has spent most of it's history in regional tiers; however they did play some seasons in the third level during the 60s, and they're now back after all these years. Their goal is obviosuly to avoid relegation, but they've been doing ok so far.

I expect them to park the bus, so I hope we can break their defensive line quickly and have an easy game.

finally our first win in the league this season, 3-1 vs. leverkusen.
they scored quite early but we stuck to our gameplan, kept the pressure on and finally managed to convert some of our chances, so i'm not only happy with the result but also with the performance overall...

B)

1:1 vs bremen
we scored with our first and only chance in the 2nd half
we were the better team in the 2nd half until they scored ( terrible "defending" from us )
overall a deserved 1:1
