How are Liverpool still shopping in the bargain bin having won CL last year and the Prem this season?
A global pandemic resulting in the loss of all our matchday revenues?
We operate a self-sustaining model where FSG expect LFC to live within their own means, as opposed to taking on loads of debt like many other clubs.
In addition, as a club we pay wages that weigh heavily towards bonuses for various criteria; winning trophies being a big one. We've got a pretty big wage bill, about the same as City's, which probably just got a bit higher from paying out the bonuses for winning the premier league.
It has also been mentioned that the board wanted the players to take wage deferrals during the pandemic and have left the door open for that. Buying Werner for £50m+ on high wages would undermine those negotiations, which still may happen if stadiums remain empty for the foreseeable future.
