thread backfired massively. england fans and players got excited over a completely irrelevant friendly and tried hard against a german youth / b-squad and still got rekt.

actually that's a pretty big achievement. i honestly thought losing a friendly to germany was almost impossible these days, so i guess congratulations are in order. what we showed today wasn't even iceland level football - yet it was still enough to give a nice person but mediocre and (at least in germany) criminally overrated football player a farewell victory...

I would dare say both teams did not play their most optimal squads for a FRIENDLY.

Seems like the thought process on this forum is, if your nation wins, the friendly matters and if your nation loses, the friendly doesnt matter/played a B squad etc.

i'm honestly not familiar enough with the english team to say who was missing for their optimal squad currently (maybe sterling and kane?), but i'm certainly willing to concede this point - although it's hard to imagine that whoever they were missing is anywhere close to the quality of neuer, boateng, gündogan, reus, özil...

concerning your second point, however, i honestly didn't see too many germans overrate this match (neither beforehand nor after). maybe it was in anticipation of yet another lackluster performance in irrelevant games (we're used to that) of a team that would obviously never play a tournament match, or just based on the fact that it was a friendly and podolski's farewell game - anyway, game obviously doesn't matter at all, said it before and said it after the game.

reading this thread, however, it looks like a lot of english fans seemed to really have anticipated it and celebrated their admittedly decent performance by their standards in the first half, that's why i said it backfired...

game still doesnt matter, its just amusing that we can even win this kind of game against a motivated english team
