Shaky? He was fucking horrible, every single attack came from that side. They recognized the weakness and exploited it as much as they could.

a draw against portugal and avoiding a big loss against germany will secure a second place finish on goal difference which is realistic

Altidore going down kills us on offense. Our whole offense, and possession of the ball really, relies on a strong single forward (dempsey is more of a roaming CAM/supporting striker) who can play with his back to the goal and hold the ball. Jozy is the only player on our team that can do that and our other forwards suck besides Dempsey. When he went out you saw how we couldn't keep possession and then we just tried to have counter attacks when they weren't there and forced the ball. If altidore can't play i have very little hope for us, but it helps a ton that coentrao and pepe will be out against us

yeah that was more or less what i was thinking, just didnt want to be so blunt. he wasn't great going forward either and looked nervous as hell out there, but then again our midfield and possession were terrible.

he needs to go because the better teams will cut us up from the flanks and midfield, especially Germany.


We need the midfield to hold up the ball and keep possession, or at least make it hard for Portugal to get chances to move through our channels, which looked gaping in the second half of that game. A win or draw against the Ronaldos would be amazing.

I agree, im just saying not having altidore makes that so much harder because other teams dont have to defend as hard against our forwards or worryu as much and can pressure the mids more. Our formation was also strange, we basically had 3 holding midfielders but were supposedly playing a 4 mid diamond formation. that forced either jones, bradley or beckerman to push outside left since bedoya was on the right. neither of those 3 are outside midfielders at all.

as far as beasley. yeah he looked like shit but he isnt good ddefensively to begin with. hes really an attacking winger but we have converted him to a LB. It helps us offensively with his skill, pace and runs, but he is a shit defender

missing Jozy is a pretty big blow, and that's what i meant when i said that our mids need to step up and keep the ball longer and create going forward. it needs to be said that perhaps Beasley's inclusion in the squad itself was a mistake, he just isn't the player for this type of competition, no offense to him. it also needs to be said that Jones was critical/amazing in our win vs Ghana
