Casillas' performances this season are underrated. He had a bad run in december, but he had been doing well before. Let's not forget that with 17 goals in 19 game he's statistically La Liga's best keeper this season (although in reality I'd say Willy Cavallero has been the best). Also, saying he hasn't been good for a year when he only conceded one goal this Euro and had plenty of good performances with RM, is pretty absurd. It's like people saying Messi is finished now after a few bad games, people just expect the best players to perform perfectly in every game and bash on them when they have a bad run or simply don't excell. Sure, it hasn't been Casillas' best season so far, but he hasn't been bad.

I agree though that it will be interesting to see what Mourinho decides regarding the keeper position when Casillas is healed, since he's very capable of sticking with Diego if he keeps on performing well.

it's not that easy, you can't just look at one stat and determine the best player based on that...

i give you an example from a league im very familiar with: in bundesliga, manuel neuer has by far the most clean sheets. but he's certainly not the best keeper in it atm.
guys like trapp and adler clearly outperform him. if you want to look at stats, you'll also have to take saved / blocked shots into consideration but even that doesn't tell the whole story: mistakes that didn't get punished appear in no statistic but if you have a goalie who makes them regularly, you wouldn't consider him a good goalkeeper even if he had good statistics otherwise, would you?

and although i think courtois is a good goalkeeper with a lot of talent, i think it's too easy to say that he's the "best" based on one particular stat...

Completely agree with you, I meant to say he was annnounced as best keeper of the season so far because of his clean sheets (not my opinion, just read an article about it)

In Spain clean sheets don't matter in order to win the Zamora award, it's goals coneded per games... although only keepers that have played at least 28 games can win it, so Casillas needs to play 8 games to have a chance of winning it.

And I just checked the current Zamora table and it turns out that Courtois is indeed in the lead right now, Casillas was in the lead 2 weeks ago though, and of course up until his injury.

oh well, i obviously misunderstood you then. to be honest, i wouldn't even know if he was the best, i don't follow la liga that closely atm...
my whole point was that you can't base something like that on one stat but i see we're on the same page about that...

Yeah can't say I follow la liga that much (no tv rights for la liga here) so I can't rate the goalkeepers expect Courtois :P

Just saw an article a few days ago that courtois is la ligas 'best' keeper so far

Well imho, I'd say Willy Caballero has been the best, with Courtois and Casillas battling for second place... both of them have performed well most of the time, but have had some mistakes. Osasuna's keeper Andrés Fernández has also been really good.
