the expected result, but a surprisingly "solid" (or rather: france was somewhat disappointing) performance that still exposed exactly what we lack: a proper striker (not löw's fault), a clear and distinctive tactical plan (löw's fault), and ideas how to create goal scoring opportunities against well organised, deep defensive lines (mostly löw's fault).

france basically only did what they had to do, and you can't really blame them for being content with defending a narrow win, three points is three points (even though seeing a reigning world champion blatantly waste time from minute 25 onward is somewhat cringe). we might have had more possession, and on paper more shots, but it was mostly worthless midfield passing and we almost never looked even remotely dangerous in front of their goal. it felt like we could have played for three days and probably not scored.

i have to admit that i actually appreciated the defensive effort that kroos and gündo put in (first half mainly), compensating for löw's poor team selection and proving me somewhat wrong, but in the end, the smarter and more efficient team deservedly won. grats to france.

all that said, the early booking for kimmich was an absolute joke - why do we always get pedantic spanish refs in every big tournament?! it may not have cost us this particular match, but it might play a role later on in the tournament. then again, looking at rüdiger's (fortunately failed, but still) bite on pogba, we really can't complain - if the ref sees that, rüdiger could easily be sent off - even though he obviously didn't even hurt pogba...

the really depressing part is that france played like 50% and it was plenty

rüdiger said in an interview that the ref indeed saw it and came to him to let him know, he did not see it as an assault/bite - which is also why uefa cannot punish it afterwards, as the ref did see it and chose to not punish
also pogba later said he was confused at first but also didnt see it as an agressive behaviour as he knew antonio - which is also why he didnt act out on it (couldve easily thrown himself on the ground screaming)

didn't know about the ref part, i thought he simply didn't see it, but either way, that was incredibly mature and sportsmanlike from pogba then - huge respect to him for that. again, rüdiger did not really 'connect' with whatever weird shit he was attempting there, but no one could have complained had he been sent off for it imo.

Was in the stadium for Hungary vs Portugal, we were so close to a solid 0-0. :(

the whole stadium was shaking when we scored the offside goal, it was so bitter to see the team crumble in the end.

the atmosphere was 10/10 though

yeah, we couldn't believe our eyes when we got scored on twice in 2 minutes basically..

this has happened against Poland 1-2 months ago too, we have to fix these issues.

i bet the atmosphere was amazing. really miss packed stadiums full of enthusiastic fans. i just REALLY hope it won't backfire and end up as covid hotspot. were there any requirements to enter the stadium, like a recent negative test, being fully vaccinated, or anything along those lines?

it really was something man

Yeah, so we had to get a wristband they day before the match, if you are Hungarian, you get it if you have the vaccination card, I've had my second shot 5 weeks ago, so I am good on that.

They said they would measure your temperature on the way in, but that did not happen, lol. Also, they said you have to wear your mask while inside the stadium, but alas nobody did.

You had your hand-sanitizers and all that jazz everywhere, so all in all I think it was not too bad. It really felt weird though to be among so many people.

If you are from abroad, you need to show a negative test from within 24 hours I believe.
