Even though he helped lead his team to glory, Neymar said he's stepping down from the captain role. That's pretty humble of him... maybe others should follow his example, especially if they don't have a leader's mentality, regardless of how good they might be with a ball at their feet.

Subtle shot at Messi. I love it.

Yeah, he may be a superb player, but he's an awful captain. Not only does he lack the flair and spirit to inspire his team mates, but he even quits on the team he's captaining ffs... The captain is supposed to sink with the ship, while it's always the rats that are the first to leave the sinking ship.

I mean, he already lacked the obvious leadership qualities, but that's really a disgraceful and low thing for a captain to do. And of course, after causing drama, he came back to take over the captain role again like nothing happened...

Yeah... but I think they didn't give it to him for being the best performer, but rather to keep happy someone who's influential enough to cause a quake in Argentina.

It annoys me because I'd really like to see Mascherano as captain. I'm sure he'd do a good job.

Mascherano would be perfect as a captian, he has the good position on the pitch for it, knows the game and is a leader.

Messi threatens Maradona's status, thus why he is threatened by him.
And any player who can kick a ball threatens Pele's status

Best performer =/= best leader
