Anyway, here's the retard version for all the English guys:

4th place THIS SEASON isn't THAT bad you might say but let's have a closer look:

- They are already 12 points behind a very mediocre looking Chelsea who still have one game less - United never had a chance to fight for the title THIS SEASON.
- They had no international competition this season and could fully focus on the league THIS SEASON.
- They spent more than ANY other team on transfers, signing players like Di Maria (who was easily a top 5 player last year) and Falcao THIS SEASON.

Overall there is only one objective conclusion: They are just an incredibad JOAC. -_-

cim does have a few valid pts.
Van gaal did have a whole week every week to prepare for games. Tho he kept tinkering with 3-5-2, 3-4-3, 4-4-2 and finally 4-3-3.
Qualifying for Cl was the most important objective since it was his first season.
So cim, if you would still want to be looked upon as legit, wait till next season and if united fail to challenge for the title, do your thing.
