I know what it translated to, I only say it because it's in your newspaper and over TV. I don't watch it that often, but my dad watches and reads morge german channels and papers about football than Dutch, so he ocosionally let's me read articles.
If I'm mistaken thats fine, but I've never seen die nationalmannschaft before.
No offense taken ofc.
O and for anybody not understanding the rivalry. You're clearly not Dutch or German. Like I'm not from Barcelona and Madrid.
you're not mistaken at all. as i mentioned before, i've read that a lot lately in newspaper articles and heard it in tv reports.
and yeah, i don't even mind... gramatically it's a correct term and everyone knows what's meant. i just wanted to clarify that it's not what WE call our national team because i had the impression it's a common misconception...
and yeah, i still think netherlands - germany is a great rivalry but over the last two decades it lost a lot of its former seriousness and sting.
mainly because there were and still are so many dutch players in the bundesliga and because western european football has changed a lot (in terms of hooligans and such nonsense)...
