The game last night was clearly a tough one and not so spectacular, but when did algeria provide spectacular football ? They will argue game started badly because of the lineup. I went over this one ages ago. Any decent coach would have played Lahm as a pivot, as he played a full season there, although i never agreed with pep putting him in that position (never rated lahm so high), in my team he`d play there or not play at all (which would be more likely). Khedira is still recovering (out of form) playing him 90' would be stupid. He did well enough when inserted, was put in at the right time, no1 could argue that. Boateng ? Decent as full back, shitty yesterday as center. What are low's alternatives for a central back ? Only center backs by proffesion are Hummels and Merte. Mustafi could play there, but it would be a bigger risk than playing him on the flank. Hummels is injured.

The midfield consisted of arguably best players germany has. Kroos was shitty, clearly outclassed by schweini who had a decent game. Gotze was completely trashy, yes, i know, why play him on the wing, fender would argue. Simply because you got 5 attacking central mids that fit the no10 role and no real class wingers. Unless you`ll argue that draxler is somewhat decent, in which case i`ll respond with inconsistency + inexperience. For shalke he had good games but had games where he was completely unseen. Schurrle ? If you can`t see how bad he is you should not discuss football.

As for attack, muler missed a freaking lot, too much for a striker. But yet again klose can`t run a game the way muller did, volland is not what we would call a "striker" he could fit behind a no9, but germany has none.

Low performance : Completely outclassed every opponent so far. Smashed portugal. Recovered well vs ghana, perfect sub ins, perfect tactical adjustments. Completely dominated USA, Dominated and won the round of 16. And i think france was inferior in their 2-0 win to a germany that won 2-1 in the full 120 minutes.

mid: schweinsteiger/khedira/kroos

upfront: özil/müller/schürrle


with klose being the first option on the bench. if özil struggle, you have the option in götze from the bench. even kramer looked not too bad in 10 minutes, i am thinking he could easily be swapped for either khedira/schweinsteiger, if one is exhausted.
