Terry does well in big games like most other world class player do, but he doesn't outstand like Puyol imo.
While Puyol had a pretty much flawless run in these kind of games, Terry had several major fuck ups such as the game against Germany or the CL semis against Barça where he recklessly got sent off in the first half, etc. Obviously, he's human and it's natural to have bad games every now and then (and I'm not even counting the slipping incident because that's just bad luck that can happen to anyone), but Puyol's performances seem notably more consistent to me (not to mention he would normally have to defend wider spaces).
