BVB initials are from the founding name of the club: "Ballspiel-Verein Borussia 1909" (Ball games club Borussia 1909). Borussia is a variant on 'Prussia' and the Dortmund club is actually named after a brewery in northeastern Dortmund named 'Borussia'.

certainly didn't help, but it was individual mistakes and a certain naivety that cost them more than anything in that first leg, just blaming it on injuries would be too easy. they simply messed up and didn't play anywhere close to their potential.
