Well, the US did qualify from a hard group on paper, but when you think about it they just got a draw against the worst portuguese side of the century, and a somewhat lucky late win against Ghana. They were weak against Belgium, and had it not been for Howard having the game of his life they'd have never made it to ET.

I remember when people used to say "have you ever seen a German miss a penalty?" then they lost vs Chelsea on penalties in '12 and since then we constantly saw Germans missing penalties (I distinctively remember Ozil missing one of his, don't remember if it was a big match for Arsenal or a qualifying for Germany)
