No they aren't lol. There have been players who definitely were as good or maybe even better, but they didn't play in such a dominant team. You can't solely rate a player on how much he scored because his team plays a really big part in it. Messi would have never scored that many goals when he would be playing for stoke for example.

Who is better than Messi or Ronaldo, past or present?

Imagine Messi or Ronaldo playing in the 80's, or the 60's...they'd tear it up even more back then because the quality of players is so much higher these days.

how? if ronaldo was playing in pele's day he would be scoring 80 goals a season. the technical level of players is much higher. stamina and fitness levels much higher.

what you are talking about is completely unrealistic
you cant know how players like pele would have been with modern training just like you cant know how ronaldo would be in the old days
any halfway decent amateur team nowadays has a better physical condition than the players around peles time had

You can see in old footage that Pele wasn't anywhere near on a technical level as Messi or Ronaldo are at now. He spent his whole career at Santos in the Brazilian League (probably a bit stronger back then, but still).

It's time to stop overrating these players just because they are retired and have won world cups.

More money in the game, at a grassroots and academy level. Football is more of a serious option for a career than in those days. Youngsters take the sport more seriously as a result. More competitive leagues these days too. I mean, nobody knew how to do a Cruyff turn or a roulette before the 70's...if you want more examples of why the technical level of players is MUCH higher these days then you can PM me rather than spamming this topic

And you don't think players like cruyff or pele who had so much talent would be great players nowadays aswell? You're making no sense at all. You can't compare players from today with those of 30 years ago cause the game has evolved too much. It's not like players nowadays have way more talent because they can pull of more tricks ...
Edit: btw, still think ronaldinho in his prime was better then both messi and ronaldo if you want a more recent example ...

Ronaldhino was awesome... The only down part was he was prime for a few seasons whereas ronaldo-messi are always ripping it apart.
No doubt ronaldo messi>> pele and maradona
You really can't even compare, can't even compare ronaldo + Messi to the other 2. No freaking way
