I agree that it's mostly your head, but that's precisely why practicing is important... you act out the situation, you discuss it, you acknowledge that reaching penalties is a possibilty, and you grind into your mind that you are ready for it should the time come... you get rid of the "oh fuck, penalties" mentality and you replace it with "good, this is our thing".

Of course it's not a game changer, and no matter how much you practce penalties it will come down to how you handle stress... but rehearsing stressful situations is one of the best ways to help cope with stress.

Well true. But i mean its really hard to simulate. And if anything, a mental coach / group sessions of just talking, working on ur psyche and discussing the facts of a pen shootout would probably be as helpful :) its surely not a bad thing though not saying that
