I fully agree they do.
But this is direct result of decade of austerity which impacted the poorest parts of society the most, so when a crisis like what we've got now hits, the government just can't, after 10 years of cuts to social services, go *shocked pikachu face* when the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members suddenly begin to struggle financially so much they can't even afford to feed their kids.
I suppose if it was any other aspect such as homelessness or mental health, it'd be easier to ignore or sweep under the carpet but letting kids go hungry is too much even for most brexity right wing Tory voters.
fwiw I do agree with general premise you shouldn't rely on the social services to feed your kids and you shouldn't have children if you can't afford to feed and given them normal life in general, but circumstances change and these are exceptional times.
