Would be a great deal for him since he's 32 (considering the move would be during the summer window, duing which Atlético will still be allowed to make signings). Apparently the player has said that if the club is ok with it, he'd like to go because it would be the last contract of his carreer and he'd be earning 3 times as much as what he earns right now.

I agree. It's perfectly understandable, and no one would consider gabi a mercenary if he wanted to leave at such an age.

I just find it funny that they'd offer 18M€ for a 32 year old that is only really class when he plays in a system like Atlético's.

Apparently they are also after other Atlético players (Thiago, Torres,...). It could be thanks to the chinese dude that bought 20% of Atlético last year; he might be promoting the club's players among owners of chinese clubs.
