Atlético won it in 1977, my bad on Valencia though, they won it on 1971 (before Franco died) and I thought it had been later.

And that's what I said, they were bad until the Quinta del Buitre years in the late 80s... they won like 4 leagues between 1970 and 85, out of which 2 of them were thrown by Valencia and Sporting.

It's generaly considered the worst era in Madrid's history after of course the dark era that came after the 2nd Republic and lasted until the early-mid 50s resurrection.

They were flukes 2 sociedad, 2 bilbao and one barcelona in 15 years, its not fair to say "other team have won it" like they dominated the league for years.

la Real wasn't flukey at all, they still hold the record for most consecutive games undefeated (38 games between the 2 seasons they won their titles), and Athletic won the double iirc.

In general, the level of La Liga was awfull between 1970 and 1995. Barely any international titles were won, and the vast majority of players were spanish (it was before Bosman's ruling ofc) and these were Spain's worst years in football where for the most part simply qualifying for an international tournament was seen as a success.

Teams like Sporting or newly promoted Deportivo could almost win the league because the top teams were awful. For the most part Atlétco had the best team, but they kept fucking up for one reason or another and during those years they earned themselves their famous "el pupas" nickname, which translates to something like "the one that constantly has bad things happen to him".
