A top 10 of all time actors would be a subjective list, but the top tier you were speaking of he definitely belongs to, as a result of the scale of the productions he has been in, oscars, other awards and the longevity of his career. Also directing and starring in his own films eg Unforgiven, Gran Torino and Million Dollar Baby are all critically acclaimed and from the top of my head Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby won oscars

The characters Clint portrays are almost always very similar, regardless of the genre of the movie he stars in. That is why I can't consider him top tier. Unless an actor has portrayed very different characters and shown a wide variety of different interpretations, I can't rate them among the best.

But don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of him It's just that Clint is very good at being Clint; not many, if anyone, could portray the characters he portrays as good as him, but he's unproven as a great actor in other kind of roles.

You're right, he could be the same guy in every movie. Same accent, attitude, facial expressions. Al Pacino, Sylvestre Stallone and others are the same. The weird thing is that it works for them to play in different roles, I don't know how or why but there is something satisfying with seeing Clint Eastwood play a cowboy and a boxing coach with the exact same personality

quite honestly, those two are the only good ones i can think of with him and in one of them he only had a supporting role.
doesn't justify hate or impiety though...

Awakenings is pretty good.

Deconstructing Harry is one of Woody Allen's most acclaimed movies, although personally it's not one of my personal favourites.

He has done some other decent/entertaining movies aswell, although most of his filmography is mediocre to poor.

for me, awakenings is only mediocre although i have to admit i'm a huge de niro fan (then again, who isn't, right?)...
and deconstructing harry has billy crystal in it which makes the movie an auto fail and basically unwatchable for me. not that william's role in it was significant to begin with...

so, my statement about only 2 good movies remains but hey, just my opinion and still more than 80% of all actors can claim, right?
just makes it less impressive when you consider how many movies he did in his career...
