well, imo none of La Liga teams ( besides the obvious 2) can match the status of current Utd, City, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool clubs. And that what makes EPL stronger - more top level teams. I don't dispute the power of Barca or Real - they might as well be best teams in the world for past decade or so, hence the results in CL.  But having only them 2 in La Liga as top European clubs isn't helping when talking about the league strength. And honestly, I don't think that results in EL should be a factor when talking about top teams. Since Valencia's decline, any team in Spain outside the big 2 take EL seriously, whereas the top 6 current EPL teams regard it simply as a failure.
And as I said before, drawing comparrisons from one off season alone, or one tie to be exact doesn't make any sense. It's the same as claiming that Lyon just a few seasons ago was in fact better than Real. Nobody can predict the future and I'm not arguing that La Liga can regain their lost positions, but atm they are behind EPL, cuz in terms of overal status they only have 2 clubs to match the English 6. And I'm not even talking about teams from the bottom half of the table.

your argument that epl teams don't win europa league because they don't take it seriously has been thwarted several times yet you repeat that lame excuse.
i'm not sure if you're familiar with the fable of the fox and the grapes - if not look it up because you sure remind me of it...

thwarted?by who? I said on several occasions, that Utd and City both fucked up and in fact Utd were simply outplayed. Yet if u think, that SAF, Mancini or any other top team coach preffers EL over EPL, u are simply dellusional. I'm not even using it as an excuse, cuz i don't need one. I'm just merely pointing out the obvious, that EL is way down the priority list for English big guns. U could see how much Redknapp cared about it, when he rested 9 starters during a decisive match. But still, for some reason use the same EL argument cuz it's once in a blue moon, that Utd even competed there. while it's been clearly pointed out, that no other nation had so many influental teams in CL in recent years than EPL. this fact is being overlooked for some reason.

well in my opinion the most "influential teams" as you put it so nicely are those who actually WIN it. and like it or not primera division is ahead there - also primera division will most likely take the 1st place in uefa ranking so there is a truth behind it because it rates the overall performance in europe in the last 5 years.

just to set things straight - i actually prefer premier league over la liga. and i always said that (also in this forum) - i'm just not ignoring the presented facts or making excuses just because i like one league more...
i'm just trying to be objective here...

Ok, let me ask u this way: is Real Madrid an influental team in CL? And do u know when was the last time they won, or played in the final?
