Interesting, I didn't know stroke could only be used for bleeds. In Spain we use the word for stroke ("ictus") for both, but we add the tag "hemorrágico" or "isquémico" (hemorragic or ischemic) to specify if it's a bleed or a clot.
And then technical/medical term would be "Accidente Cerebro-Vascular", which again is later specified if it's ischemic or hemorragic.
I apologize if my post was confusing. Stroke is an umbrella term, so youre right within your post. There are multiple strokes, there are the strokes in which you have a blood clot travel to the brain which causes a part of the brain to become ischemic due to loss of oxygenated blood, then there is the hemorrhagic stroke which is a bleed. My point I was trying to make was that SAF had a hemorrhagic stroke which means he had some type of brain bleed, which should never be medicated with an anticoagulant like coumadin..if it was the latter, a clot then anticoagulation is the preferred method and depending on the last known well, TPA which is like a clot busting medication can be used to bust the clot up. Depending on the severity of the bleed is whether or not he would have needed surgery to stop it from bleeding, then you treat the underlying cause which is usually volume overload or hypertension.
