Left as a rising star, returns as space dust. Hope he somehow regains his brilliance back at Everton; I really liked prime Rooney.
yep from 2006-2010 he was absolutely insane. the ankle injury in 2010 and nagging effects after he never seemed to 100% recover from but he still was top class for another 2-3 years. his sharp decline was quite alarming but given how he played for nearly 10 years, playing all over the pitch wherever he was needed, it made sense and he never quite reinvented himself to play midfield or a proper goal scoring machine forward a la Cristiano. Those seasons spent playing all over the place in order to make the team better was a testament to just how versatile and unique he was at his prime.
Even so season before last he was completely instrumental to the FA cup win (goal-line clearance in the semi-final tracking all the way back and then the long solo run to cross it over that led to the tying goal in the final), obviously just a squad player this last term but was a model professional and got United back to UCL as a proper send off, completing the club's and his European trophy haul.
Sad the legend is going but Rooney wants to play more and it's nice to see him return to where he burst in

after a few games with some goals he will be the best striker in the world, genius signing etc
we know how that goes ^_^
even worse will be when Rooney bags a brace or something like that
there will be plenty of fans who screamed for him to be sold/allowed to leave wanting him right back
