Maradona carried a mediocre Napoli to 2 scudetti when Serie A was the most competitive league in the world. He also reached 2 WC finals (winning one of them), with argentinian sides that were worse than the current one.

Until someone manages to do something like that, I'll have a hard time considering someone else as the GOAT.

The manager didn't look too upset at this very visible show of player power, and after the game Enrique said: "I trust what Messi tells me."

And while Messi has been criticised for disobeying his manager, the four-time Ballon d'Or winner should be applauded for wanting to continue playing.+

Messi won 3 champions league, reached one WC final with a rubbish team (except Mascherano (after his worst year as professional footballer), Agüero and Di Maria (injured)), and second top scorer in spanish league (top 1 maybe after this weekend).

Top scorer of the history of Clásicos, it's not easy to say.

If you talk only about shitty teams and WC finals, Romario kicks ass.

Won 3 Champions league, how much did Messi actually do in the 2006 UCL ? Did he even play in the final? I bet he sat on the bench way more than he actually played, yet Messi fanboys will stop at nothing to give him 100% credit for that win.
And wow it must have been sooo difficult for Messi to win 3 UCL titles with one of the strongest teams in the HISTORY of football; swap Messi with any other world class striker and they would have achieved the same results.. More or less.

WC final with a rubbish team? Messi wasn't even Argentina's best player, Mascherano and Marcus Rojo performed the best, with Messi in 3rd (largely thanks to his group stage performances since he flopped after GS)

I'm not hating though, he gets a solid (actually quite extraordinary) 7th place as the greatest of all time.. Behind Zidane, Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, Beckenbauer and Ronaldinho. With at least another 5-6 years to move up the ranks. (pre 2012-13 season I placed him in 10th but hasn't done anything since to improve his 7th place)
