I disagree, the players aren't bad at all. The issue here is if the manager can make a solid team out of them or not...

Name 3 that would make the spain/germany/France squads.

Germany could use England's strikers though.

1 to start and 1 to bench.

Possibly.

That doesn't make them bad, it's just that there are 3 teams that are far better than the rest (on paper).

How many times since 1966 has England been able to say there are only 3 countries in the world that can field a notably superior squad?

Well put simply I'd suggest there are more than 3 in the world right now who could field a better squad.

And if we couldn't win it when English teams were dominating in Europe using English players I won't be convinced that this batch of players is our best since 66.

Well, perhaps not the best since 1966. But I would say among the best since then, and definetely not the worst in your lifetime imo.

joking aside, i don't think this year's england team look bad at all. they have some pretty exciting talent (alli, kane, rashford) and some good quality players (hart, smalling, vardy, sturridge...) - i wish we had that many good strikers tbh. i wouldn't be surprised if they actually did well for a change...
england and croatia are my dark horses for this tournament rather than popular picks belgium and portugal...
