sry ampoo but i think you're missing the point here. the ref communicated to the schmidt that he had to leave - through a signal AND the teamcaptain. schmidt was fully aware why (zwayer talked to him earlier!) and still refused.
the ref, who was tired of the constant complaining and already told him that, therefore chose NOT to talk to him (as in listen to his excuses, complaints and the usual fingerpointing) again. so when schmidt refused to leave, interrupting the game or even canceling it are the measures a ref still has left to enforce his decisions and that's what he did. you can't extort a ref's personal explanation by just refusing to follow his instructions. if the ref gave in at that point, it would have set a precedent that all managers would have followed from there on...
rangnick just said on sky90 that he himself cant count how many times he was sent off by a ref, but always in person
i agree with you on your point (in bold)
but that guy is too arrogant and spineless to face schmidt and tell him "please leave the interior or i will be forced to pause/cancel the game" period, no explanation needed
just the respect to deliver your final jugdement in person
as i said, if someone still refuses after that its totally justified to call for a break until he is gone
i know its difficult and the ref was within the rules, however how he handled this was ludicrous and more fitting for a drama class in highschool
i think we can agree on the fact, that german refs have serious issues with their performances and their snotty body language
there were some pictures from earlier in the match where you can see the fourth official following schmidt when he already turned his back, muttering to himself (yeah thats clever...)
i dont even like the guy, but i still think he had a point here
lets say that both parties did not leave their best impression today
